Yes, Obama won. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but an inevitability considering the values and worldview of American culture today. There was a part of me that wanted him to win, like the kid who hears, “don’t touch that stove, it’s hot!” Part of me wanted to see just how badly we might get burned. Maybe I was wrong about it. The next few years will show us the character of the man as he faces tests from every angle. Which is exactly why our President needs our support: verbally, intelligently, and prayerfully. One thing I liked about his acceptance speech was his statement, “This is not the change we have been looking for. It is the opportunity to make that change. It’s going to take hard work.” That needs to sink into American culture. We all need to shake off the political apathy that we’ve settled back into and peel ourselves out of our pleather lay-z-boys and get into the arena to shape the country that we want to see. If not, we will once again take the back seat and let greedy, power-hungry men and women chart our course for us.
